Duncannon boy named 2015 Military Child of the Year for Army:
Chelle McIntyre-Brewer thought it odd at first that her 4-year-old son, Cavan, would insist on donating his Christmas presents to complete strangers.
So it’s no surprise to her that her son, now 13, was recently honored with a 2015 Military Child of the Year Award.
Cavan is being honored as the founder of the Socks for Vets program that collects and distributes undergarments and hygiene items to veterans and wounded warriors. He was inspired to launch the effort by a visit he made as a Cub Scout to a veterans home in North Carolina in December 2008.
